Definition

H.264 and H.265 are video compression standards developed for the efficient storage and transmission of video data. Frigate uses these formats to compress recorded video sequences and store them on NAS systems or other storage media. H.264 offers a good balance between compression rate and quality, while H.265 (HEVC) enables higher compression at similar quality. The choice of format significantly affects file size and required storage capacity.
