Definition

Isochronous Real Time (IRT) is a transmission method in the Profinet protocol that enables cyclic, isochronous data transmission with very low jitter. This technology was specifically developed for highly dynamic applications in industrial automation, where precise and time-coordinated control commands are crucial. Through IRT, even demanding motion controls and time-critical processes can be reliably implemented.
