Definition

Operational Technology (OT) encompasses the hardware and software that monitor and control physical processes in industrial environments. Unlike IT (Information Technology), which deals with data processing, OT focuses on the direct control of machines, equipment, and production processes. The special characteristics of OT networks lie in the need for deterministic transmission times and high reliability for time-critical applications.
