PTPv2 (EN)
ProtocolVersion 2 of the Precision Time Protocol for improved accuracy and efficiency
Definition
PTPv2 is Version 2 of the Precision Time Protocol, standardized as IEEE 1588-2008, offering significant improvements over the first version. This version improves the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of the protocol, especially in larger networks. PTPv2 supports extended features like Alternate Time-to-Live (altTTL) to prevent loops and improved mechanisms for error detection. Most modern PTP implementations are based on this version.
